This morning, in an effort to find Ann Verdi's Solitary Sandpiper, Frank Vanslager and I worked the McKean Rd side of Calero Reservoir from the first concrete dam [first west of the boat launch ramp] to Bailey Cove [near where Bailey Ave meets McKean Rd]. We also checked the small inlet near the stables. "Best" birds were a SPOTTED SANDPIPER [just beyond the concrete dam face], six COMMON MERGANSERS [nearby], an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER [west of the stable ranch house] and a female WESTERN BLUEBIRD [near the public parking lot for the stables]. There were also 6 - 8 CASPIAN TERNS roosting near the Spotted Sandpiper spot, five LEAST SANDPIPERS [Bailey Cove], at least three SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and two to three GREATER YELLOWLEGS [various places].
