On Wednesday 4/23/03, Richard Jeffers and I headed south to San Diego
for a four-day pelagic trip to deep waters off southern California.
On the way south on highway 101 we saw an OSPREY at Parkway Lakes and
a Golden Eagle near the Riverside Golf Course.  A 25-minute stop along
San Felipe Road south of Highway 152 failed to turn up any Cassin's
Kingbirds, but a pair of LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES in the vineyard there
was a surprise, especially since the female made one trip with
apparent nesting material to a hidden spot within one of the grape
vines while the male watched.
