For those curious about the identity of the Texas mystery bird in yesterday's post, the answer is, I don't know for sure whether it was a Clapper or a King Rail. I'm told the former are much more probable where it was seen, but the latter are possible during migration; my expert consultant (Tony Gallucci, who did graduate work some years ago on rails on the Texas barrier islands) says he would list the bird as Clapper on the basis of those probabilities and the picture.
