As I exited 237 at Zanker, I found an ACTIVE RED TAILED HAWK NEST located in a group of trees growing at the intersection West of Zanker and North of 237. The nest is in the tallest tree with both adults near as one traded places with the other on the nest. I kept my eyes out for everything as I drove ZANKER to GRAND Ave. As you turn right onto GRAND Ave. you soon cross railroad tracks where I found two curious BURROWING OWLS sitting on the gravel road under the gate watching me. Also found 2 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, saw many, many BARN SWALLOWS and found 2 BLACK SHOULDERED KITS, 2 HARRIERS, more RED TAILED HAWKS and several TURKEY VULTURES. CANADA GEESE are sitting on nests everywhere and RING NECKED PHEASANT could be heard and found several times. Also observed a pair of adult KILLDEERS trying to get a GREATER YELLOWLEGS out of their area as you could also see newly born Killdeer chicks working their way through the pickle weed. AVOCETS, BLACK NECKED STILTS, SHOVELORS, PINTAILS, MALLARDS everywhere. Had to go back to work - bummer.
