I was startled by the massive numbers of CEDAR WAXWINGS on the San Jose State University campus today. There's a flock of 25-50 that I am used to hearing once a week or so, but today, everywhere I walked on the main campus, there were flocks of 50-100. I found at least three separate groups that size. The air was filled with their busy calls and movements. I presume this has something to do with migration, or the plentiful food sources available in what must seem to be an otherwise concrete downtown area, or both?
