What was surprising was that this was during the high tide and there were no banks exposed that we could see in this area. The birds were in the creek near the intersection of the creek trail and the trail that runs between the athletic club and the golf course from the end of Geng Rd., which is a left turn off Embarcadero Rd. two stoplights north of Hwy 101 in Palo Alto. (Whew! This location description reminded me of Joe Morlan's precise directions on the old No. Calif. Rare Bird Line....) The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was also relocated in the first marsh north of the railroad tracks, but it flushed and flew toward the pond at Spreckels and State. Searches for the PECTORAL SANDPIPERs came up empty. There were two other birders (sorry I didn't get names) present in addition to myself.
