This time there was a good assortment of migrants. The highlight was an adult male AMERICAN REDSTART, watched from 7:17am to 7:27am as it flitted its way through the mid-level canopy. I saw the bird from the east side of the creek just a couple hundred yards north of the end of L'Avenida. There was a big wooden sign that said "Bargain Faire Sat May 1 8:00-12:00 Moffett and Middlefield" that was split in two and in the creek bed. I put one half at each end of the portion of the creek where I had the REDSTART (on the east side of the creek along the lower path). Among the 46 species (high!) seen along this stretch were 4 species of HERONS/EGRETS, an immature COOPER'S HAWK, 2 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS, 8 "WESTERN" FLYCATCHERS (including one singing its full song!), 1 WARBLING VIREO, 3 BARN SWALLOWS, 1 HOUSE WREN (lone eucalyptus), 16 YELLOW WARBLERS, 3 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS, 1 WESTERN TANAGER, 2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and 2 DARK-EYED JUNCOS. Twenty-four GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 7 NORTHERN SHOVELERS north of the Crittenden Lane bridge were expected, but a group of 8 NORTHERN SHOVELERS down near the lone eucalyptus were further up the creek than I usually see them.
