As I pulled in to park, I saw the 1st-winter male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD on the wires with other blackbirds, adjacent to the ranger station. I put the scope on it and took some notes, but when it flew I lost track of the bird and could not find it again. I walked out beside the creek here and saw the ROCK WREN on the east side (among rocks). The goose flock was gone when I scanned the reservoir edge, but foraging birds started to return as I left the park. I only saw one WILSON'S SNIPE in all of the excellent habitat on the south edge. Five BONAPARTE'S GULLS were foraging along the reservoir edge--I don't know how typical they are for this location. My count of the actively feeding COMMON MERGANSERS reached 19. As for the WILD TURKEYS . . . As I was leaving the crew of Rogers, Kenner, and Kenny were at hand. Although they had not yet found the Yellow-headed Blackbird, we can hope for great things when they report later.
