I took a quick 2 1/2 hour walk today over at the ponds. I entered through the Oka Lane entrance. In Pond # 6 (along freeway) were American Wigeons, Mallards, Coots and Pied-billed Grebes. In the tree along the chain link fence were Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Black Phoebe and a pair of Mockingbirds. As I walked towards Pond # 5 (the largest pond) there were two Snowy Egrets and a Great Egret in the channel. Pond # 5 had Mallards, 5 male Ring-necked Ducks and 3 female, 8 Ruddy Ducks, Coots, Pied-billed Grebes and Cormorants. I walked towards the bridge and watched the White and Gold-crowned Sparrows in the dry brush. In the fennel patch were 2 Song Sparrows and 1 Common Yellowthroat. Walking along Los Gatos Creek and the freeway in the center of the creek were Mallards, Northern Shovelers, American Wigeons, Gadwalls, a Pied-billed Grebe still with the stripe markings of an immature Pied-billed. At "Snipe Island" were 2 Wilson's Snipe. Walking back and crossing the bridge an Osprey with a fish flew over towards Pond 6. I had Bushtits along the way as well as a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. 2 Anna's Hummingbirds chased each other as I walked towards the first Campbell Pond. Lots of Cormorants (75) and Western, Ring-billed and California Gulls could be found swimming in Campbell Pond 1 also. Coming back across the bridge walking towards the Oka Lane entrance, I spotted the Osprey in the tree eating the fish it was carrying. A Green Heron flushed. Also, a Black-crowned Night Heron Adult and immature were along the canal. A Belted Kingfisher made an appearance. Wishing you all good birding and my best regards, Linda Sullivan _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
