One was on the metal pole just southeast of the observation platform when another one landed on the platform railing. There was no indication of any territorial squabbling between them. Just moments before a SAY'S PHOEBE had been perched on another metal pole just north of the platform. This is the first time I have seen two Shrikes here during the eight months I've been walking in this park. I have usually seen one Shrike at least several times a week except during a period in the summer when that bird was not present and I saw no Shrikes at all for a couple of months. Could this second bird be migrating? Do Shrikes ever show animosity when another Shrike enters their territory? The LONG-BILLED CURLEW that I reported seeing on the Great Meadow a few days ago remained for only two days. A GREATER YELLOWLEGS is using the pond just south of the observation platform.
