We were pleasantly surprised when an American Bittern flushed out of the grasses along Adobe Creek. With our backs to Charleston Slough and "Skimmer Island" we re-found this bird in Adobe Creek in the grasses at the waters edge. We had the opportunity to observe it for 15 minutes as it maintained a frozen position with its neck stretched up and its beak pointing straight to the sky. It quite resembled Edward Rook's artwork on page 1 of the book, Birding At The Bottom Of The Bay (3rd Edition). Using our scopes we observed its eyes scanning every which-way as it foraged for food. A great observation for several of us and a lifer for one! Lisa Myers _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
