I got to spend some quality time outside this weekend and noted the 
following at or near my home in Los Altos Hills:

Sparrows: golden crowned (many), white crowned (several), song (a 
pair), and white throated (just one, male, a first for my deck)
Finches: house(2 pair), purple (one male)
Towhees: California, spotted (plenty)
Jays: Steller's, scrub (fewer than earlier this year)
Lots of juncoes, and chickadees, and titmice
Anna's hummingbirds (two pair)
California thrasher (one pair)
Acorn woodpeckers (family)
American robin (handful)
Varied thrush (one, briefly)
Hermit thrush (one, possibly same individual as last year)
Euro starling (two)
California quail (lots and lots)
Mourning dove (half-dozen)
Bush tits (many)
Wren tit (two pair)
Bewick's wren (one, new for my yard)
Redtail hawks (usual pair, now sharing a perch)
Great horned owls (pair, back to hooting, juvenile squawks stopped about Oct 1)
Screech owl (one in Byrne Preserve on Central Drive by the top chain at 6pm)
Redwing blackbirds (by the hundreds at Foothills Park)
