I birded the west levy, and didn't have time to get down to the streambank, or into the willows. This strip leads to some settling ponds that contained lots of Mallards and Wilson's Snipe and one Northern Pintail. Before reaching the ponds, the levy offers overlooks of a brushy field that rang with the squawks of Ring-necked Pheasant. Best sparrow was a lone Fox. Overall, it was quiet, with many of the usual suspects missing today. The list: DC Cormorants flying by, Mallard, N. Pintail, Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, R.N. Pheasant, Wilson's Snipe, Mourning Dove, Northern Flicker, Black Phoebe, Scrub Jay, American Crow, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Oak Titmouse, Bushtit, Bewick's Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Northern Mockingbird, American Pipit (one, flying overhead), Cedar Waxwing, Loggerhead Shrike, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Spotted Towhee, California Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrows, Red-wing Blackbird, Brewer's Blakcbird, House Finch, European Starling. Good birding, Mark Paxton _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
