At 6:40 AM this morning there were around 30 Black-crowned Night Herons 
in clear view in the forebay,  including some juveniles.  Dozens more 
were hanging out  in the reeds, and more yet were scattered along the 
edge of Adobe Creek.

A Ring-necked Pheasant foraged along the creek edge in the vivid early 
morning light.  Further down the trail a lone Great Blue Heron was 
slowly and carefully stalking something, and a handful of American 
White Pelicans floated here and there.

Except for the occasional shotgun blasts from the duck hunters (brace 
yourself!), it was a very peaceful morning at the slough.
