Dozens more were hanging out in the reeds, and more yet were scattered along the edge of Adobe Creek. A Ring-necked Pheasant foraged along the creek edge in the vivid early morning light. Further down the trail a lone Great Blue Heron was slowly and carefully stalking something, and a handful of American White Pelicans floated here and there. Except for the occasional shotgun blasts from the duck hunters (brace yourself!), it was a very peaceful morning at the slough.
