Roland Kenner and Pat Kenny were leaving as I arrived, but instead walked back with me to show me the sparrow spot. Where they had seen the Clay-colored most recently was adjacent to a 10-m patch of coyote bush on the west side of the creek, perhaps 30-40 meters downstream from Scott Boulevard. We found the bird again at about 11:40 am both in the coyote bushes and foraging along the weeds on the west side of the creek. Roland and Pat left and I moved off the upper portion of the eastern levee to the lower portion. About 12:05 pm, the Clay-colored flew into the coyote bush, giving me another short look. Walking back to Mission College Boulevard, Roland and Pat were still birding and pointed out the American Bittern that started all this foolishness, walking quietly in cattails about two-thirds of the way from the boulevard to the footbridge.
