All,

Things were pretty slow on Saturday's field trip to Grant Ranch County Park 
(many of the usual passerines were missed).  Best birds were a VIRGINIA RAIL 
in the southern portion of Grant Lake, an adult GOLDEN EAGLE flying over the 
hill northeast of the lake, several sightings of (a?) SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and 
six plus VARIED THRUSH west of the ranch house.  Ducks included BUFFLEHEAD, 
RING-NECKED and CANVASBACK while shorebirds included WILSON'S SNIPE (at least 
four), LEAST SANDPIPER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a Dowitcher (probably 
Long-billed but opinions varied).  A single AMERICAN PIPIT was found on the 
far (western) shore of Grant Lake by a sharp eyed KIrsten Holmquist.
