During extended viewing, at close range, the bird that Frank and I saw (on 10/28, the day before Mike Rogers' sighting) was obviously larger than the two male Tricolored Blackbirds feeding near it (it was longer, heavier looking and stood taller). On several occasions the YHBL chased off TRBLs that got to close. The YHBL that we saw did indeed have white only on the very edge of the coverts more striking however, was the bright yellow chest (much brighter than that shown on Sibley's first winter male) when compared to the subdued yellow markings on the head. It would seem, to me, that the yellow on the chest was brighter than that which would be acquired by female YHBL.
