I have noticed several mentions of Brandt's Cormorants
lately and wonder if they are connected -- unusal
occurences due to the storms?

o One immature at Los Gatos Creek Park (Roland Kenner,
Pat Kenny) (In Santa Clara County, this bird is a "6"
in terms of frequency or difficulty seeing it.)

o 7 immatures at Coyote Point last week (Ron Thorn,
who says that in all his birding, he has only seen
Bay-side Brandt's twice. I actually saw an adult in
early December after the first big storm at Redwood
Shores.)

o Today, someone mentioned carcasses of several
Brandt's Cormorants in Monterey or Santa Cruz.

I don't know much about these birds, but the one at
Los Gatos certainly looked out of place and a little
forlorn. I am glad to hear from Bill Bousman that it
looks healthy, however.

I guess what may be bad for the birds is good luck for
us birders.
