Halfway between Paicines and Panoche Valley 30 Wild Turkeys in two groups had just crossed the road and permitted close inspection. As we entered Panoche Valley a Ferruginous Hawk landed on the hillside south of the road and did a complete pirouette before settling down to survey the valley below. On the valley floor 0.2 mile west of the intersection of Panoche and Little Panoche Roads 47 MOUNTAIN PLOVERS performed their run-then-pose routine next to the road while scores more foraged in the distance. A few unwary Mountain Plovers eventually wandered close enough to provide scope-filling views - a welcome change from the rather shy Solano County Plovers. On Little Panoche Road just south of Shotgun Pass we spotted a rufous morph Red-tailed Hawk. We continued north and half a mile past Mercy Hot Springs we flushed a Golden Eagle which flew over the road and landed next to a second Golden Eagle.
