I saw a RED KNOT, which soon flew east in a group of three, all of which, I think, were Red Knots. It had a short, black bill; the rump was all pale; its body was the size of nearby dowitchers. It was seen at about 10:15 am, just before low tide, on the water's edge just west of the mouth of Stevens Creek. Thanks go to Mike Rogers for suggesting this location (while we were futilely looking for Red Knots in Palo Alto on Friday). Sorry to say, Pat did not see them. Off the walkway across the south end of Stevens Creek Tidal Marsh we had a beautiful SORA on the way out and two VIRGINIA RAILs and probably four SORA, six sightings more or less, on the way back. We had a hard time leaving because on each attempt we'd see another rail. There were two PEREGRINE FALCONs and a GOLDEN EAGLE around the Tidal Marsh all morning, and a MERLIN kept us company while we were at the creek mouth. In the kite flying area there were 13 AMERICAN PIPITs and 3 locations with BURROWING OWLs, 4 seen. All in all, a great morning.
