The basic plumaged RED KNOT was seen at 3:30 on the mudflats from the dirt parking lot next to the building across the street from the Palo Alto Duck Pond. It didn't seen to be hanging out with anything in particular although Black-bellied Plovers, American Avocets, and Least and Western Sandpipers were in the immediate vicinity. I left the bird for about 20 minutes to make a phone call (thanks Lee for forwarding my message to Pete and thanks Pete for sending the message to SBB). When I returned,I could not relocate the bird. It may be tide influenced and at 3:30, the tide appeared to ba about half way and dropping. Good luck if you decide to look for it. I originally went to the Duck Pond area to look for a White-throated Sparrow which I didn't see. Are there any around? Good birding......
