Later, I saw them as well. They appear to be working one area immediately east of the smaller of the two large clumps of tules/cattails out on the mud. As others have noted, these "turnmuds" are turning over pieces of dried mud and feeding on whatever shows up. An adult GREEN HERON was in the channels near the entrance. Neither Jim nor I saw the Common Tern found yesterday. As I was leaving, Roland Kenner and Pat Kenny were on their way out to the ponds to search for this tern. This is probably the same bird seen at CCFS a few weeks ago. It is now almost completely in basic plumage. There are still a few dark alternate feathers in the breast and upperparts. At least 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were here with a much larger number of GREATERS. A handful of WILSON'S PHALAROPES remain as well. Rounding out the notables were 3 WHIMBRELS and a MARBLED GODWIT.
